School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics

Applications are invited for the above position in the Japanese Programme, School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics, to commence January 2012. The appointees’ principal duties will be the coordination and delivery of Japanese courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level, the regular output of high quality refereed research consistent with the level of appointment, supervision and mentoring of thesis writers, and contribution to leadership within the Programme and School. Other responsibilities will include pastoral care of students, administrative tasks, and possible supervision of tutors.

PhD scholarship opportunity

Doctoral Scholarship in Social Anthropology, University of St Andrews

The St Andrews Centre for Pacific Studies invites applications from candidates with a doctoral research project in any field of Social Anthropology, with a regional focus on the Pacific. This fee waiver doctoral scholarship will start in September 2011 and cover tuition fees at the UK/EU rate (currently £3,732 per annum) for three years.

Post-doctoral fellowship opportunities

Urban Anthropology or Urban Sociology

The Max Planck Institute in Göttingen, Germany, seeks to appoint three post-doctoral research fellows in Urban Anthropology or Sociology, each for three years. The anthropologists / sociologists will be employed to conduct research respectively in the following locations: New York (likely Astoria in Queens), Johannesburg (likely Hillbrow) and Singapore (likely Jurong West).

Two new positions from the WASH Advocacy Initiative

Here’s some information about the WASH Advocacy Initiative:

The voluntary, sector-wide initiative, will support the U.S. WASH community in moving the U.S. Government and U.S. citizens, including individuals, foundations, corporations and civic and faith-based groups, into a global leadership position on water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) on several fronts. These include but are not limited to the level of foreign investment, general awareness of the global water crisis, sustainability of WASH programming, prioritization of WASH within the U.S. Administration, and integration of WASH in other global development activities. The Initiative is designed as a 12-month effort and is supported by a consortium of organizations including Water.org, Global Water Challenge, Water For People, and CARE.
